The Vision, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

LaViRIA

ABOUT US

The Vision, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, (LaViRIA because of its Spanish acronym) is a research laboratory of the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Guanajuato at its Salamanca site. We belong to the Engineering Division of the Irapuato-Salamanca Campus, (DICIS because of its Spanish acronym) located at the Community of Palo Blanco in Salamanca, Mexico. In accordance with the research topics being developed, the laboratory is in association with the bachelor’s programs on Engineering in Communications and Electronics, on Computer Systems Engineering and on Mechatronics Engineering. It is also associated to the the Master’s program in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation and Digital Systems major) and with the Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering.

HISTORY

The Laboratory is a result of the pioneering work in vision, robotics and artificial intelligence developed by M. Eng. René Jaime-Rivas during the 90s. Our establishment as a research place dates from 2001. Since then, the laboratory has been strengthened through the work of several researchers involved in the development of intelligent systems.

  • LaViRIA is conceived as a learning environment aimed at the development of highly skilled human resources. These people are now helping to improve our society through their knowledge, skills, values and attitudes.
  • LaViRIA’s environment seeks to contribute with skills and knowledge to the progress of the state of the art in computer vision, mobile robotics and artificial intelligence disciplines. This is reflected in its academic production.
  • LaViRIA is a network of shared efforts between its members and sponsors. The capacities generated by the resulting synergy allow it to address the continuing challenges that emerge in our environment.
  • LaViRIA has computational, robotic and vision equipment that is used for the research purposes of the laboratory’s disciplines of interest, to know: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Mobile Robotics.
